I was wondering if it would be possible to make a mangrove nano tank?

i haven't been able to find much info on the net about how fast/easy they are to grow, so i was wondering if anyone had any experience with them?

I think it would look good to have a bonsai-type mangrove tree which would provide filtration for any fish i wanted to put in there. i'm not sure what fish would go well in the tank, but i was just wondering if it would be feasable to create this tank.

i was thinking a foot of roots and a foot of growth would make a nice aquascape. i don't know about their growing rates to decide whether this look is attainable.

Sounds like a cool idea, you would need additional filtration though not just mangrove roots, the water needs to be circulated.

Ask in the marine section, some people use mangroves in sumps to filter the tank.

Fish wise i don't know....if mangroves are brackish water then bumble bee gobies might be ok for a nano.

Ask about mangroves at the marine section then about fish for a nano in the marine or brackish section depending on where mangroves can live :good: .

never though about the circulation, couldn't rely on fish to do that for me could i? get one with a big tail...:p

Mangroves can grow in freshwater, i think salt helps them grow more tree like but they use up salt as far as i can tell so you have to keep an eye on the levels so its okay for the fish.

i'll ask in the marine forum to see if anyone can help me out - don't really want to flood the boards with mangrove threads though.

Some people do grow mangroves by themselves - outside of aquarium setups. I've seen them in those bonsai containers.

how long would it take to grow to that size?

is it possible to get a hold of mature mangroves? with established root systems? i really have no experience with them... i've never even seen one in real life...

Dunno if this link is any help to you :) .

I think i may try and grow a mangrove tree, either in one of my tanks, or in a separate pot.
