hi all, im planning on gettin a mandarin dragonet, will it eat live brine shrimp? also how do i set up a copepod culture.

no need to tell me how much trouble its going to be, im determined to make this happen.

i need all the help i could get

thx

As long as you plan, it will be fine :good: sorry can't remember how big your tank is so going to assume you have under 90 lbs of live rock

1) set up pod culture at least one month before getting Mandy
2) read Tina's thread about setting up a 'dinner'
2) buy Mandy
3) start to feed frozen brine shrimp, mysis into the corner that s/he lives in after feeding the other fish or set up a dinner
4) feed copepods (after dark) to the tank every three days

Copepod Culture

required:

Container - I used a childs fish tank
airline and pump
phyto
salt water
window sill
pod culture

add salt water to container
add powerline, turn on pump
add phyto and culture (phyto should turn the water to what looks like a cup of tea, before milk )
Put on a window sill that gets the sun

Add phyto when required, i found this was every two days

Problems

Occasionally pod cultures crash, to avoid this you can set up two smaller cultures or be prepared to buy pods online until you can re-establish another culture

It really is very easy, I was lucky and my cuture never crashed but my window sill got a lot of sun, the water turned green and the pods fed off the green algae water which they seemed to love. But both Trod's and Tina's crashed, so the probability is that the pod culture will crash at some point, just be ready with a plan

ps one more thing on the choice of Mandy - don't see a little skinny Mandy, feel sorry for it and buy, it will only end one way, with death of Mandy! Wait and search for the fattest one you can find
