On an off chance of getting something different for my tanks i went to a different LFS during my lunch break, and low and behold they had some HC in there, had been trying to get hold of it for a while as somesaid it is great for carpetting a tank, and currently my java moss is going crazy and looks a bit messy.

was wondering if anyone had advice on the best way to plant it? i got 2 pots of it, i presume it is best to take it out of the pot and split it up in small bunches in the substrate?

I have sand substrate and dose with JPL ferrapol 24-daily and also with the JPL ferrapol on a weekly basis. I also add co2 via a nutrafin system. This is all in my rio 125l tank.

cheers

any advice on planting HC?

planting individual stems will give you the best results, simply pull off a stem (HC is a stem plant) then plant it normally.

The other option is to pull off a small clump and plant it, this takes longer to form a carpet.

If you dont have a set of tweesers then good luck! And your back will hurt too ;)

hahaha cheers, have seperated it into 7 or 8 small clumps and have planted it in an open space i created when i rescaped my tank....

is it relatively easy to grow? have heard mixed messages on it...

It likes lots of Nutrients & CO2.

and light! lol

It should do fine in 1.5wpg, the same with riccia, pogostemon helferi and glossostigma elatinoides. They are all called high light plants but the people who use these usually inject CO2 and TPN+ or EI dosing! Look at Andy's tank, he had P.helferi in his 0.9wpg tank (T5, so more like 1.8wpg... tops!) but still this isnt regarded as high light.

oh yeh i remeber his thread now, i love P helferi

ok not quite sure on the lights i have....i upgraded them a while back, the fitting is the standard juwel rio 125...i dose with co2 and add ferts daily and also weekely, have a few root tabs spare, is it worth using these?
