my males dont really take any intrest in my females and im not sure why. whenever i go and look, the the males are always together and the females are together. one of the males tends to chase the females but the other male never does. its the younger male which takes more intrest. do males stop breeding as they get older? im just shocked becuase usually you cant stop them breeding! maybe its because my females are new. well please reply

thankyou :)

i asked the same kind of question and i got the replys that maybe the females tell them there not interested and the take the hint.

and i'm no expert but i would imagine the younger they are the more they would want to breed yer;)

ok thankyou but do you think they will breed in the future or later on ? i hope they do!

Depending on how old your fish are they may not have interest anymore. I'm assuming you haveguppies due to your name. If the one that's not interested is.....a year or so old he might just not want to breed. Younger males are always better for breeding. I don't think it's that your females are new either. And with my platys I thought the male didn't want to mate but it turned out he was just shy. I watched my tank from a distance and noticed he chased the females around. It could be that too.

ok yes my one guppy is quite old so yh he proberly doesnt want to breed.
thankyou for the info :)

Ok then! That has to be the reason. As fish get older they won't breed or have babies as much like they did when they were younger. If your guppy is old then you shouldn't expect him to be the father of anymore fry. The same goes for female fish, after a while they can still mate but won't have any fry.

ok thanks
i have 1 young male so he shud breed shouldnt he?

He should be able to breed as long as nothing has happened to him. if he's chasing the females that should mean he's already trying to breed. Don't worry, you'll have little baby fish soon enough as long as you have good water conditions and a varied diet.

well i think i have good water yeah but i dont have a varied diet i just feed them this food which is brown grains for tropical fish. think that will be ok wont it

If you are not sure about your water conditions, you should get a test kit. Water may look fine to the human, naked eye, but it may have buildup of ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, or all of the above. If you are interested in looking into a test kit, I would pass on strip tests as they are highly inaccurate. A liquid test kit like the AP Master Test Kit is readily available from Amazon.com.

This will let you know what your water conditions are at in your tank. If your tank is overstocked and due for a water change, chances are your water conditions are less than ideal. Let us know. In the mean time, water changes will keep water quality at a good condition for fish. Normally 50% PWCs are plenty to keep the fish in a good environment.

this morning i watched them for about half an hour as i was in my bed watchin them from there  and i saw the 1 male chase the 1 female but when the other male comes along he will start chasing the other male instead and iganore the female. Also he only takes intrest in the bigger female and i dont get it  It looks like he trying to mate with the other male !! and thats wrong! so i dont really know whats going on in his head hmmmm.....

Well, I don't know why the one male only likes the bigger female but I do know why the male is chasing theother male. It could be two possible things. One is that when males don't have any females around they will try to mate with other males. I doubt it's that though since there are other females. The second is that one male has established himself as the dominent male and chases the other male away from his "lady" and his turf.

Sorry not read whole post but reading you other post and saying your guppies look thin would explain why the males are not very intrested.

If their thin and not producing eggs then then male knows this some how and is not interested.
