Yeah the females usually beat the male up and all hell breaks loose. Its a shame as it would make an impressive sight, Dawrf gouramis do well in that type of set up, although they arent as impressive as betta's mind.

Usually, but sometimes you will get a over-aggressive female. So even with a group of females, lots of hiding places would still be good.
