Male Swordtail Not Gaining Weight.

Hello,

I have a male swordtail who has not grown in over 6mths. When i watch him eat he seems to consume the flake then spit it back out .

Why do they do this?

My PH was rather low for a while but coral sand in the filter has now been keeping it steady at 7.0. All other stats are good. water change every week.

He did mate with a female that I had who produced 10 young but died 3 days later.

how big is he? its possible that he is a Dwarf swordtail. i had 1 and it only grows to about 1-2 inches.

He is under 2" long.

How can you tell if its a dwarf swortail ?

I'd say the fact that he is still alive after 6 months ensures that he is in fact eating, so I would agree that it is probably a dwarf sword. As far as being able to tell, I would probably say that if he is alive and eating but not growing to the size of a typical sword then he must a dwarf. I know that isn't much to go on, but the fact that he is alive after 6 months yet isn't growing points to the dwarf theory.
