Male or Female

Hello,
I really want to start breeding fish, i'm so fascinated. I want to start out realy easy with some ballon mollies, but the only problem is I don't know if I have males or females. Could someone help me out, PLEASE!!!!!

The male's anal fin is pointed and is called a gonopodium, while the female's is fan shaped. Do you have any pictures?

The males are usually smaller, and as sasha said they have a gonopodium, which is used for the transfer of sperm from male to female. You can also see by their behaviour usually... if there is a lot of chasing it's usually the males doing the chasing. Anyway the people working at your lfs should be able to tell you which are males and which are females if you are unsure. (If not they should not be working there ) When buying just ask for one male and several females, as the ceaseless chasing by many males of just one female can be very stressful for her.
