Im going to get another betta soon just wondering which sex people would say is better and why?

If your keeping just the one, then a male or female will do. But seen as females can live together (given a good tank size and a minimum of 3), it might be unfair seeing her grow-up in an isolated enviroment.

With the 17l tank, i would have a male betta and a few shrimp :good:

He will also learn to recognise you and you can train him too. :D

I have a single female in with threadfin rainbow fish, they and her get on fine, mind you she's a greedy piggy and beats them to the food, they get the rest that drops down. I think she defo likes the company, before that she was in my 120 litre community untill the larger fish got too playfull. Oh yes I forgot to add, she lets me stroke her

Ok thanx vey helpful, i used to have a male but he died i think it might be cos he was with alot of other fish think ill get a male :D thanx ppl

Best of luck and enjoy your fish.

Personally, I prefer female bettas. Right now, I have two males and two females and one morning woke up to find the fins on both males shredded up and have absolutely NO idea how that happened. They're in different tanks in different rooms and I use entirely different sypons etc. for them, so I cannot think of why the cooincidence happened. IMO male fins are soooo delicate and watching them swim, I see it more challenging on my double-tailed male struggles to turn around (my dh even mentioned them "hindering" the betta). I love how my females glide along without a care in the world :)

i think a male.

one male or a group of females.

Terry has the problem GG said about, but he doesnt care, cause he doesnt know any different lol, and i love it when they flare :D

Thanx, im going into town on friday so ill have a look then.
What style of bettas do people like best and why? colours to

I know but im just interested in peoples views and why they like certain ones. I do love VT cos of their long flowing fins and i had a gorgeous blue vt betta with a dark blue body :D ill try to get pics when i do get one.

I prefer the males to the females not only for their looks but their personality, I love their bubble nests and their flaring, my favourite type is difficult to say as I love them all but I guess a nice halfmoon would be hard to beat though I do like the nice feisty plakat boys too :hyper: fin shredding in males can be a problem but then so can egg binding in females, plakat males seem to be less likely to sucuumb to this problem so yes a nice plakat male is great! marbles are my fave :good:

The ones I have owned are  perhaps its because they are more closer to the wild type betta or maybe their short fins allow them to be more hyper :fun:

lol i dunno but Nemo is ALWAYS flaring lol. i caught him flaring at the cories earlier
i have a VT boy that flares at everything..he must spend at least 5 hours a day flaring at something in the tank. could be the snails, the bubbles from the sponge filter, the heater light when it switches on,the PLANTS!!! just about everything is suspect:) a good flaring session typically lasts from 5-20 minutes, he will then have a rest and then start all over again. silly boy. he also will NOT eat pellets (god knows ive tried with him). i dare not put any fish in with him for obvious reasons.
cheers

I prefer the flamboyant finnage of a male Half Moon. But, in terms of beauty and personality, there's no fish that can top my male CT, Edgar!
