the youngster i bred 3 months ago. he didnt have the best start in life so is a bit small for its age. its in with a tank of girls at the moment. no egg spot, but no big "flare face" when it does flare. showed it a mirror and although facinated, no flare. looks a bit fat as this was just after a big meal of bloodworms.

the dad was the male in my avitar, the mum was a cambodian red pk

im going to say its a male mostly because of those vents on him...... any and all young fish iv ever had with vents like that was a male.

yeh everything about it scream male, but it dont have that big flare face flap of skin under the gills. il be getting his own tank soon i think, mabey a bit of isolation will help him mature

typical i can usualy spot a male a mile off but your's has a typical female body shape but male venterals.

Shame he dont have the full coour's of the male either, but I'll say 70% sure male

Awww poor lil guy/gal! But at least he/she pulled through b/c of the TLC you provided *nodnod* :good:
I have no idea what sex it is. As others have pointed out.. the vents do look a bit on the longer side, but that body along with the "duller" coloring (well least in the photos) looks female.
*shrugs*

I'm no expert, but from the looks of the mum, I'd say it's a male. It's a little chubby though, and it seems like the fins should be longer but... Mabey he/she is just gender confused! LOL!

I have an idea :look: why don't you put it with a female (only for a while) watch it and see if it flares up and chases the female... If not then she is a female. JUST AN IDEA THAT YOU CAN MAYBE USE :D

i would say 100% female its to chubby to be a male and the fins should be longer

this was after a feed, all the fish were looking chubby. also no egg spot

in with a group of females now, ignores them

Im going for a bit of both... I dont know, I would say female aswell 'cos of its body shape and duller colouring to the body.

Maybe isolate it and show it a male? See if it would flare then?
