Male Or Female?

it has a really, really small tail, like the size of a female, but it looks like it may have a gonoporum (sp?). i asked for a female at the store, which is typically really, really good about fish, but i'm guessing they just went with tail size. i thought it was a female until i notice my male wasn't after this one like he is with my other two females. if it is a male, he's pretty young because he hasn't shown any interest in my two females.

if it has a gonopodium then it's a male

in your signature u can see a nice male with a gonopodium underneath his body.
Wild type males do look femaleish, with small fins and not a lot of colour (shows what we can do in 100 years or so)

if u can get a pic then this would make it much eaiser.

i figured it was a young male when i noticed that. this other male has alot of color to him, just not a large tail. i'd hate to take him back as i love his color...

i'll try to get a pic, it took me about an hour to get that one on my sig

Looks like a male to me. Even with your pic being a little fuzzy it looks like a gonopodium. The fin on a female would be easy to see if it were there.

Yes he is a male. He just needs a few more months to grow. Try giving him some freeze dried bloodworms.

anyway, check the anal fin. if it has a long pointy fin then it's a guy. if it's a rounded fin then it's a female.

yeah. i figured out it was a male. -sigh- had i wanted one i would have gotten the gorgeous blue one. now i need two females for this guy. i'd feel bad taking him back. i guess i can understand why they thought he was a female. i mean, the other males in there looked like this:

some even crazier. one was gorgeous, his tail was bigger than his body and everything on him looked tie-died. easy mistake when the others look like that.

so i'm guessing he's just a young guy since his tail's still small.
