Hi i,ve just got some white afras and dont know wether this cichlid is male or female can anyone help oh yer spoke to someone in my lfs and they told me egg spots are not a sure sign is this true.

Thanks for the reply the full name is cynoptilapia afra (white). I know they are normaly blue with black stripes but this is blue with faint stripes. The other one in the tank is powder blue almost white with dark stripes they are young fish.I persoanlly would try to catch it and vent it. This is about the only way you might have a chance at sexing, depending on the size of the fish.
hi again i think your right white top and if they look as pretty as yours i'll be a happy man thanks for the helphi are these from a lfs? cynoptilapia afra white wont be their true title as there are tons of afra the name are normally a reference to a lacation they are from in the lake! hope this helps! from the photos id still say its a possible Cynotilapia sp hara these some times get refered to as a white top? and are a real nice fish! this is my dom male![]()
like i said they look too small to vent but it sounds like the other one is a male this one will id guess be a sud dom mamle or possible female? but until they get bigger or breed you may have to wait![]()
