Male Or Female I Dont Know

Hi i,ve just got some white afras and dont know wether this cichlid is male or female can anyone help oh yer spoke to someone in my lfs and they told me egg spots are not a sure sign is this true.

whats a white afra? is it a hara? looks like it could be? it still looks too small to sex but at a guess from the anal fin shape id say boy? id agree with the lfs boys and girls can have egg spots!

I persoanlly would try to catch it and vent it. This is about the only way you might have a chance at sexing, depending on the size of the fish.

Thanks for the reply the full name is cynoptilapia afra (white). I know they are normaly blue with black stripes but this is blue with faint stripes. The other one in the tank is powder blue almost white with dark stripes they are young fish.

hi are these from a lfs? cynoptilapia afra white wont be their true title as there are tons of afra the name are normally a reference to a lacation they are from in the lake! hope this helps! from the photos id still say its a possible Cynotilapia sp hara these some times get refered to as a white top? and are a real nice fish! this is my dom male

like i said they look too small to vent but it sounds like the other one is a male this one will id guess be a sud dom mamle or possible female? but until they get bigger or breed you may have to wait

can anybody help? i have 4 kribensis when i brought them i asked for 3 female and 1 male (more chance of breeding) i was just woundering if i have been given 1 male and 3 female so heres pics if anybody can help thanx

i was told this was 1 of my 3 females

this the 3rd of the females

this i was told is the male

any help would be appriciated thanks

4th one does look like a young male. best way to tell with kribs is the males are more elongated than the females. when you get 2 to pair off make sure you remove the other females or its guna get nasty!
