We have recently purchased 4 Kribs for our smallest tank (70 litres). There are 4 banded gouramis in there (2 x male and 2 x female) and we have no intention of getting anymore fish for it.

All seem to be getting on well although things I have subsequently read suggest that 4 male kribs in one tank will fight. I have had no problems with them so far although they are quite young as yet. I was reluctant to get a mixed sex set as I have not the facilities to cope with the numerous eggs and fry I understand Kribs produce. I was advised by our lfs (a usually good one I hasten to add) that introducing females that spawn can cause problems in that the males need to be removed from the tank when the fry hatch etc etc, and that the females become quite territorial once they have fry so I opted for the 4 male solution being advised that that would allow me to keep Kribs without the added problems caused by fry.

The males are perfectly calm at present, occasionally having a quick prod at each other if their space is invaded by another, but to be honest no real aggression at all.

Will this continue, or as they mature will they become more territorial and aggressive? :p :) :D :thanks: :yahoo:

I'd keep an eye on them, but as far as i'm aware they could be alright, just make sure you provide more than enough caves, as I know my female likes to ponder around all the caves I have. When these fish are breeding they can be extremely aggressive to one another and also tank mates, so lets just hope you don't have a late devoloping female or something.

I'm afraid the tanks not big enough for 4 adult male Kribs, you'd need something twice the size really. They should be OK short term as juveniles but i wouldn't count on it being a permanent home for them. :/

I had 2 male kribs in the 20gal before, I bought them when they were small, couldn't id them properly :(, and 1 of them killed the other....

I can't see that working for long. A 70 litre is barely enough space for a mated pair.

Thanks guys

I'll keep an eye on them - we do have a much larger tank which I can transfer them to if necessary, I'll probably split them up but at present they are okay. There are plenty of hiding places for them and I must point out that they are without doubt males - I understand that they are not always easy to sex when they are young, but there is no doubt in this case.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed and my eyes open! :D
