Well, as some of you know, big blue died a week ago.. now her life partner is lost without her... he either looks for her (or what seems to be looking) or he just stays in the corner. Is he sad? I mean, does he really have feelings or am I just dreaming? I have 3 other females in there with him, and another male, but none of the males take interest in those females, they just liked Big Blue, so now im stuck. Do I try and purchase another blue female platy, or what? I have a female blue spotted platy, but im guessing they arent gonna be fooled since she has alot of white to her, and Big Blue didnt. Im afraid he is going to die soon too, since I purchased him along with Big Blue, so they should be around the same age of over 2 years old. What do I do?

hi,
thats a sad story bless him, i had a red wag male who was the only one aloud to go near his girl, when she died he looked lost ,after a week or so he was ok, maybe a look alike would be ok, let us know what you decide to do rip big blue :rip: .

Sorry for your loss Morquinn. :rip: I'd do as Donn123 & Somethings Fishy Here suggested and get a look alike. I'm sure Big Blue will perk up. :D

Yeah, I have been thinking about it the past few days, only thing is, I havent been able to find blue female platys. Im not sure what kind she was, she was just solid blue (metallic in a way, in some lighting) with black fins. I believe I bought her under the name of Variatus, so basically, she wasnt a certain breed or type, she was just a fluke, or mix of something and didnt have a proper type name, like moon, or micky mouse.. so I think im gonna have trouble finding another one, but I have been looking. I cant get any fish shipped to me right now because we have been in a heat wave that isnt common for MN, with highs reaching 107F with index.. so I may have to wait awhile, im just unsure how long he is gonna last, since he is pushing borderline old also. I'd guess he's about 2 1/2 years old give or take a couple months.

From my observations, fish do have the mental capabilities to mourn for losses.

I remember, I had a pair of sailfin mollies that were quite big (3.0'') that I used to mature my saltwater tank. Problem is, the morays were very hungry that day...

The big male wtached the moray decapitate his wife... :-(

He mourned for almost a week therafter. As did my female Oscar.

I think they have feelings too when my platy died my other platy just went and swam in their corner looking all sorry for himself, but he has perked up now.
sorry for your loss, hope he feels better soon.
