Went round to my local pets at home a couple of hours ago, i make a habit of not buying fish from there anymore as i quite often see a large number of dead fish in there. But i always have a look and see if its got any better, well today it did get a WHOLE lot better   Theres a tank with 1x male betta with several females in there plus some sort of small tetra i think. Now maybe im wrong but is this not the worst mix of fish in a tankyou could have? Suprisingly nothing was dead which makes a change for them. It makes me laugh when they ask you questions about customers fish keeping when they've got no idea themselves

its terrible aint it i went to a lfs once and they had a male and female betta in a 15 by15 by 15cm tank thats 3l and i said you cant have male and female toghether look there ripping each other to shreads and they told me it was normal and it was just them sorting out whos dominant

I've seen the same thing (P@H is disgusting, isn't it?) in a pet shop near me - neon tetras, 2x female and 1 male betta, so not even enough females for a normal sorority. I was apalled, the male had hardly any fins left :( staff said he was fine with females. They just refuse to listen to customers.

I must admit they did look ok BUT thats not the point really. They shouldnt be in together wether there fighting or not, it must be stressful for them. I know theres not much point but ive put a complaint in, theres plenty of things going wrong in there if you ask me but seeing that has just made me angry.

There was a short finned male at my LFS in with the females.

I don't think they had any idea

P@H near me had a male in with about 8 females and they were bullying him. I said they cant be kept together and they actually took him out and put him in another tank! When i went in a few weeks ago, they said i can keep a male in with a female! How wrong can they get!
Plus, i ALWAYS see dead fish at P@H. Everytime i go in! Its sick.

i bought one of my bettas from p@h and the woman told me that they would have femals in on tuesday if i wanted some to put in his tank with him, then again from a woman who had no idea what malawi cichlids were, when she had just been cleaning out thier tank,i really couldn't expect anything else could i??

Most lfs staff is... lacking......
Here's a few gems from various threads and experiences:

-Female bettas become pregnant (Can everyone say "bettas are not livebearers?")
-Bettas are OK tankmates with a tank filled up with any fish, even gourami! (It may work for some, but that betta looked horrific. If I see a situation like that, provided I have a tank set up) I am buying that fish!)
-They (bettas) are better off in cramped bowls with no heat or filtration
-Cycling? What? (I'm sure everyone has experienced this one)

This is just ridiculous.
One has to learn which lfs staff can be trusted, and which.... well, you know.

I dont know how to say this but my local P@H are actually really really good they got a new manager in the fish section who knows what he is doin and i can honestly say nearly everytime i go in NO dead fish even the bettas are kept with peaceful non aggressive fish (livebearers, catfish). :hyper:
Have only had one argument and that was about the price of bristlenoses lol which they had under different names lol.
But i know one good shop isnt gonn make the whole company brilliant IMO. :good:

Thats the thing, im sure a few or maybe more or there shops have got at least "some" knowledgable staff. But by a lot of posts on here about p@h i'd say thats more through enjoying the hobby themselves at home than a good bit of training sent down from head office.

i went to the garden centre with my mum yesterday and they had a male betta in with 5 dp and it had less fins than a female and and bites on him it was terrible but when i pointed it out they atleast moved it into a tank with cherry barbs
