Please can I have some help?

I have 3 male guppies two fan tail and one lion tail. Some time over night one of my fan tails has had about 75% of its tail removed in what looks like an attack.

1. Will his tail grow back?

2. Does he require any special treatment/medication ( for pain or discomfort)

3. What is his survival rate because his swimming seems to be suffering because of the tail loss?

Thank you for any help and advice.

I have got attached to this little fish because its tail colour was very unusual.

Duane.

What other fish are in the tank with your guppies? You might want to either put the guppies into a seperate tank or take out whoever was the attacker and put them into another tank.

If you have one, put your guppy into a hospital tank. The tail will grow back on it's own, but you could always treat it with some Melafix (or whatever is available in your area) to help the tail grow back a bit faster. Keep an eye on it's tail though to make sure it doesn't develop finrot.

I'm sure more knowledgeable people will be able to help you better than me, but you should think about seperating the guppies from whoever the attacker was.

Finrot can devastate fish fins and tails very quickly, so it could be that, in which case you should treat it with some like Pimafix or "anti fungus and finrot" by interpet etc.
If the damage is from agression in the tank though, that is a different matter. You will still need to treat the fish with something like Melafix to help prevent secondary infection from setting into the wounds, but you need to find which fish did the attack. How many gallons is the tank and how many and what types of fish do you have in it?
