I have 5 female guppies, and 2 males, and the 2 males are always together, rubbing up against one another, and i even caught them kissing yesterday !!! They locked lips for a few seconds, and kept kissing, there is no nasty behaviour between them, and they are very friendly towards eachother if you ask me Lol, is this normal?? And before anyone asks YES they are definately MALE.

The 5 females i have all look pregnant, so they have been doing something right, i just thought this was a bit bizarre...

Probably gay,lol yes, also if there are no females about guppys will try and mate with one another, they are very randy fish, lol.

They cant be Gay, as i have already said they have made the 5 females pregnant, so maybe there Bi?? lmao

C x :*

Seriously though, is this normal??

Yes, don't worry, anything normal with guppys lol, will try to mate anything in the tank.

It's normal. They are fighting over females, and trying to get a pecking order. You said they've always been friendly...any idea how old they are? Sometimes when they get older, they get more aggressive towards each other. They kind of have a hyper stage, and then they get older and don't care so much anymore. :p

well if they are not gay...considering there are 5 females knocked up.... then maybe they are " bi "!!!!!!!!! hehehe jk, prolly fighting/playing my males do it all the time... (not kissing though)...you got the footballteam of guppies always playing grab ass with one another and pancing one another!---new club "come of of the cave" (cave instead of closet) get it? nvm yes okay im done :) fry soon

Well they definately dont look like there fighting with eachother, more like there in love lmao

I dont know how old they are, :/ the 2 males are quite colourful, and the 5 females are not, they are plain sort of a gold colour, and with very fat bellies lmao ! :hyper:

Ive only had the 5 females and 2 males for around 2 weeks... ( the sexes were seperated at my lfs which i thought was cool )

About the fry, i have thought about it, and im just going to let nature take its course, survival of the fittest etc....

Thanx Claire x :*

Maybe they are from the Mediterranean and are just saying hello to each other :)
Ive got 2 gay pigeons whom I rescued from a mate who was going to wring their necks.I think they are really cool and unusual. My only fear is that they will fly off to a Pride rally some day and not come back!

The kissing is a sign of agression, not love as we human interperate it. The same goes for when male guppys "mate" with each other, this is not a sign of gay love but actually the more dominant male displaying his dominance over the more docile male- this actually happens in thousands of types of animals, even female mares in horses will somtimes mount other females for example, it is all down to dominance in the pecking orders.
It may sound weird to us, but "kissing" and gay mating is a sign of agression in the majority of species of animals and it is actually us humans who are odd in some respects looking from an animal point of view, to interperate such acts as love or friendlyness.
Many fish don't have teeth, but they do have protective slime coats that can be easily sucked off, so it realy can be a kiss of death in some senses although usually not in the majority of cases if its not happening all the time and the victum fish is healthy- when fish "kiss" they actually use the act to suck at somthing-
"Ooo, look! My agressive chinese algae eater is kissing my gourami- they must be in love lol!", you get the point...

since u have only had them for two weeks.... it could be another month before any fry come...and having nature take its course it probably a good one considering 5 females... also the longer they are pregnant means more fry.... so keep that in mind as well... :)

Well i have 6 Zebra Danios, and 1 Dwarf Gourami in with them, so i dont think that 5 lots of fry will end up with much at all, im going to let nature takes it course, maybe a couple will survive i dont know we'll see, but i hear Zebra Danios like fry for a tasty snack??

Oh yeah. Fry pretty much don't stand a chance with Danios around. :) However, some might survive if you give them some floating plant cover.
