MALE DWARF GOURAMI SWOLLEN BELLY

Hello all!

I currently have a 30 gallon tank with 2 male dwarf gouramis and a tetra.

There is one of the gouramis who is bigger and tends to chase the other fish around often. He doesn’t like fish near him.

Today I noticed he has a swollen belly. I’m positive this is a male so not pregnant. I’m thinking it’s DGIV but I just need some advise from other people. What should I do?

What are the water parameters of your tank? I think he just had too much for lunch and will get over it.

Probably a case of kidney / spleen necrosis caused bij Iridoviruses (Dwarf Gourami Disease).

I can't see anything due to a dodgy monitor so can only offer advice on information you have written.

Gouramis and Bettas are territorial and males will fight over territories. Having 2 males in the same tank will eventually lead to one dying, either from stress or physical attacks.

The gourami Iridovirus doesn't cause the fish to swell up overnight. It causes fish to become lethargic develop sores and waste away over a few weeks.

If the fish stopped eating, got fat overnight, and did a stringy white poop, it has an internal bacterial infection. You can't normally treat these and the fish usually die within 24-48 hours.

If the fish got fat overnight but is still eating well, and not doing a stringy white poop, it could have eaten too much.

Sorry for kinda jumping in on this conversation, but i have the exact same thing. I have had a single flame dwarf gourami for around a year, and recently he just swelled up overnight. He has white stringy poo, but no sores and still eats fine. He has had this for over two weeks now, and it doesn't seem to be affecting him in any way. What should I do about this?
