Hi All,

Just after a bit of advice really as my male dwarf gourami has become very withdrawn and is staying more or less continuously in one upper corner of the tank. He stays there almost motionless and seems to stop drawing water through his gills. His movements also seem periodically jerky and not smooth as he normally is. I cant see anything phyically wrong with him at all but he is becoming increasingly motionless and am really at a loss what to do. He is still eating and if you place your hand near his position in the tank he'll swim off and start behaving almost normally.

I've had him for about a year and a half now so im not sure if its old age or something diagnosable. Any help or suggestions or questions greatly appreciated.

Gouramis can be prone o bacterial problems, if he's jerking not sounding good, can he mainain his balance in the water, does he look bloated, also scheck to se scales are not sligthly raised, plus what does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
Also can you post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

He doesnt look particuarly bloated or his scales raised. When I came down this morning he was a little perkier but his poo was very thin but look normal in colour.

My water stats are:
ph 7.6
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
Nitrate - Between 0 and 5ppm

All what I would expect really so Im not really sure whats going on. I guess I'll just have to try and keep an eye on him!

Cheers,
Iain

Try some shelled peas and frozen daphnia to see if that helps, good luck.
