I had a pair of breeding convicts in their own tank, they had two attempts, first time they ate all the eggs (i think) 2nd time they ate the babies but now I went in last night to feed them and the female had bites taken out of her and she was floating upside down and dead :(

The male is the only other fish in there and they used to be fine, so whats going on???? :/

thanks

Colin

What size tank?

Usually when this occurs it is because the male is ready and the female is not.He becomes overly aggressive in an effort to "get her in the mood" and instead ends up killing her.A tank that is too small has a lot to do with it,also if there are not enough hiding places for the female .

I agree, the tank would have to be large and also alot of hiding places, your best choice would be to have 3 females to one male thise is what i have in my tanks as well as alot of hiding spots. The only time i get my cons dieing is when they stick up for there babies against my Red Devil :D

well the tank size must be approx 10 g hexagonal tank so is this too small?

there are a few silk plants and a piece of pipe for them to hide. I did have another female but once the babies was born I had to remove her and send her back to the shop because both parents were beating her up.

I was really getting into them breeding and now this so any advice appreciated.

Thanks
