I was just curious, I have a male crowntail ( ) currently in a floating breeder thing on the side of my ten gal. My ten gal has a female betta, 3 rasboras, a little pleco, an Otocinclus (? think I spelled that right :p) and a rencently added botia.

I was just wondering if a male betta can be kept with the 3 rasboras, and nothing else? I believe my female is reaching the end of her life, and I was just wondering.

My best suggestion would be to get your betta a tank all to himself. I don't think that rasaboras are good tankmates. I think he would be much happier if he could spread his fins and swim around. Somthing he can't do right now in a breeder trap.

I get my 1G bowls at WalMart. They are $4.97(in Canadian dollars). I used real plants from my 55G tank and play sand that cost me less than $5.00 for 25kg. I also made some caves out of rocks from the garden and some aquarium silicone. All in all I find them to be great homes for my boys for a very reasonable price.

rasaboras, and the female betta are a definate no, raboras are a type of tetra i beleive, could be a barb, im not sure, but they are nippers and will bother ur betta to no end. i dont think i have to even explain y the female betta is a bad idea, just dont put him with her. i recommend getting him a 2g tank and you can add some passive fish like a trio of plattys that wont bother mr betta, and will provide him with pallty fry to feed on

Are you saying a male betta can live with platies? Just curious because if a male betta can I might consider doing that myself :)

it may vary depending on the temperment of the betta, some bettas are just best left by themselves. i use platties as an example of possible tank mates becasuse theres really nothing threatening about them. they aren't aggressive, dont have long flowing fins like guppies, and are large enogh that the betta wont think about makeing a snack out of them. plattys arnt the only kind of fish that will be ok with bettas, but they were a good exmaple to use.

I dont mean to intrude on this tread but I have another question... Could a male betta be kept with platies and 1 mollie?
Thanks :)

depends on what kind of molly, some mollys lave longer flowy kind of finage that might intimidate the betta, but if u have one that just had kind of short boxy fins, then they shouldn't be a problem

A good betta tank to get is one like I got at Petco. It was $20, it's one gallon and it comes with a pump, plants, a light, and rocks. I would recommend buying a small additional package of rocks, as the kind they give you just barely covers the ground pump.

I would never keep a Betta with a Molly. The Molly has little to fear from the Betta, but in my experience Mollies are very aggressive when it comes to Bettas, which are easy targets with those long, flowing fins.

As for Platies...they're very bright-colored, and may become the target of a Betta.

I had my Betta in with a Dalmation Molly and she chased him and tormented him to no end. I had to bring her back to the LPS... however he got along fine with the 2 Platies.
