Sadly, I'm afraid your fish did have dropsy. It's the condition that can be caused by several ailments. By the looks of your pictures though, it was too late for him already. Do you know what your tank stats are? Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate? I'm worried about your other fish.

hi im speaking to netty on that forum about a new betta..they seem helpful. the levels in my tank were all spot on, im very careful at checking regularly i guess he did live to 2 and a half so he did well.

So sorry to hear that he died...but he did live a long life, in comparison to most Bettas.
