I have a fish tank with a few different type's of fish in it and have had it for almost 2 year's..I have a male betta fish and have had him for 11 month's.I would really like to get a female to put in with him but am not sure if that would be ok or if my male would hurt her or even kill her.Any info on it would be great help to me.He is in a 20 gal tank right now with 8 other fish including a irid shark, a pictus cat fish, 1 male guppy and 2 female. 1 alge eater, a fan tail gold fish,a head light tail light..They all get along very well and don't want to ruin that but just would like a companion for the male betta..thanks a million, Wendy Sue :D

Boys and girls are a nono together. It's been done but more than not one ends up hurt or dead.

yeah thats basically like putting 2 males together they will fight each other and more than likely one of them will die.

EDIT: Your gold fish will probably be way to big for that tank as he gets older

Yeah i have a 50 gal all ready to go but i am not ready to use it just yet for my gold fish is still pretty small and my irid shark is pretty small to but i bought it knowing i have it when i need it, and thanks so much it is good to no that about the male and female betta's cause i was planning on getting one tonight to put with my male but change of plan's..

I have had a male and a female together for there hole lives. But they where both old and blind when they lived togehter  I would not try it
