are they asexual? i thought they were cool and bought 2 ... $2 a piece is expensive but i thought if they bred it would be worth it...

anyone know much about them breeding?

They are usually all females and reproduce then by parthenogenesis. So they don't need another snail to breed. They also carry their eggs inside them in a pouch and the babies will hatch there. So they are kinda livebearing snails.

AWESOME... that means i should have tons in the future... thanks..

thats wicked

herbivors eh... oh well.. i caught them at the top tryin to eat some flakes ... i got lots of moss in there but far too much for them to devastate it or anything... wicked... ive been lookin for a snail that breeds like crazy.. eventually i can stick them in my betta tanks to help me with the cleaning .. hopefully the bettas wont eat them tho

My bettas don't seem to notice snails, exept when one is right under their noses. Then it has to be nipped and dropped to the bottom. And don't worry, malaysian trumpet snails prefer algae and decaying plants, not healthy ones. Mine love shrimp pellets. Giving them fish food will make them grow and breed faster, of course.

And they are really cute with their heart-shaped heads

There are faster breeders too, common pond snail for example. They do look funny, but I like malaysian trumpet snails more.

I have an huge population of these guys and I currently trying to get a fish to eat some of them. They are great snails but after a while you can have to many. But the adults have shells like rock. :X

ill never get tired of them...

once i had like 20 of those red snails that eat plants... i was like
AWESOME.. FREE SNAILS..

recently i found 1 in my kribensis tank, but its not asexual im guessing cause its grown quit a bit and no baby snails but o well..

i love snails they rule... i cant wait to have them in every tank i have thats gonne be wicked

They are smart and tought my dwarf puffer kills the tiny babies but cant touch the bigger ones (my substrate is filled with baby snail shells) they eat anything but live plants and often only come out an night. They also stir sand substrate wich is magnificent.

I agree they are helpful and nice but I have over 300 in one tank.

Damn, that is expensive. I bought 20 1" long ones on Ebay for $5.

1 month later i have about 30-40 babys in my tank now growing fast. They multiply like crazy. It's cool as hell to turn on the tank lights at night and see snails EVERYWHERE. Keeps the tank clean.

I seem to like the snails more than the fish. I have HUNDREDS of snails of different varieties. I also have tons of plants and they snails never eat any of them. They keep my tank spotless, and i haven't had to vacuum the gravel in a LONG time.

I love snails too, lots of different species and if I found a new one somewhere...

I have written something about snails in finnish, so it's no much use for you, but there's some pictures =)

rain's snails

I pretty much have every snail on your list in my tank.

Except for Zebra Snails. Now i need to get some! :D

i could tell by the pics which ones were like.. the zebra snails and the malaysian trumpets...

they had massive like.. mystery snails... but i didnt get any of them... they were enormous... any info on easy to breed snails would be good... id like to get more...

im sick of siphoning the betta tanks... itd be nice to stick a few of em in there and have them help me out lol...

my red snail died... so i stuck it in with the convicts... they play with the shell..

are these zebra snails easy to breed? or these apple snails...

these r the only ones ive seen other than the malaysian ones, and the red ones that eat plants...

yea $2 was expensive for me too... but ive heard about them breedin like crazy so i thought aslong as they breed its worth it

They are all easy to breed. They pretty much go at it all the time. All my ramshorn, pond and Malayan Trumpets do it with ease.

My mystery snails are a different story. I have two black ones and two yellow ones (sold under the name Golden Inca). They are pretty much all apple snails. Mine are about the size of a quarter. I got em small cuz i know they get big. Dispite what I always read, they never eat any of my plants. They do eat the dying leaves of my crypts though, which saves me the trouple of going in the tank
