i know there are many people out there who want these snails (and many who do not understand why lol)...well since i have so many i planned on possibly sending a dozen or so out to some people in need...i.e. those with planted tanks in particular, not those who just want them to have...

cost would be minimal - i'm not looking to make money off of it, but you will have to cover actual shipping costs...

so basically, what is the cheapest/most effective way to ship these...i was thinking of finding small viles to fill with water....but i'm sure there are probably some very good and cheap methods out there...do i need to leave an air gap for them? could i get away with just sticking them in an envelope and sending using a stamp or two? or is there anything special i would have to do?

also, how many people in the US would be interested? just trying to get an idea before i make any promises...the first couple people would be trial runs to make sure everything works out, then in the future, i would plan on sending them out more large scale possibly....keep in mind, you would not be getting any 1" + specimens, mostly 1/2" max type sizes - the smaller they are, the more you get obviously...

any information would be great and i'll start making a list of names with an order of preference based not on who responds first, but who i feel need them the most...the closer to me you are, the better, especially for the first few runs where i am determining how hardy they are...

thanks in advance

You have no idea how funny that struck me  I just got this image of them flying through the air on an envelope like a magic carpet, coasting along, little stalks flying out behind them . . . maybe even capes, or something . . . SuperSnail! The one with the big 'S' on his chest!

Er- hardly helpful, was that? :*) Sorry.

why would anyone want these snails.....is almost impossible to get rid of them!...i had thousands of them...and i didnt want any of them.

please only constructive posts....many people (especially those with planted aquariums and sand) prefer to have these snails.....they eat common "pest" snail eggs and the snails themselves....they turn over the sand so that gases don't build up...they eat decaying plant matter and algae...they eat left over food...and best of all, they will eat each other if you aren't overfeeding your fish....if you have thousands, it is a sure sign that you are overfeeding your fish extremly badly....i'm trying to do people a favor, but if no one wants any it is easy enough to dispose of them....but, IMO, a balanced ecosystem is a great thing...these snails are a great addition to any planted tank...and enough people wanted them that i thought i could help them out

I used to need them myself, then I found an LFS so I've got plenty to spare too. Considering moving them to my other tanks now. They're probably the most misunderstood of snails which themselves are terribly misunderstood.

Not sure what would be cheapest and safest way to ship [ you could try US Mail , send some to yourself regular mail see what happens ] , maybe you could test a few in a vile for say a day or 2 or 3 , Ive kept them on my back porch for as long as a week [ last month I did this ] with some java fern and moss with a little water , but they were in an open container , so they have access to air . It's great that you want to share the wealth .
I've been keeping them in my tanks for almost 10 years first as puffer food , until I realized their usefulness at moving my substrate around [ plant roots ]and making use of any left over food .

:) here comes the" snail man , what a slug " ..........sorry abstract

i cant find any near mts near me. i would like some because my filter gets clogged by dead leaves, but im scared of snails. would you happen to have any java moss though? none of my lfs have it.

I think a good way to ship them would be to pop them in an empty, well-rinsed drink bottle with about 1/4th water and 3/4ths air
