I have just changed over my fish to a larger tank and my trumpet snails seem to be dying. I cleaned it thoroughly before moving the fish and the snails over so there shouldn't have been anything on the tank that would harm them. And the water and everything else is the same as in the previous tank. If there are somehow traces of copper or other snail harming medications on the tank will putting in a carbon filter pad help??

The fish themselves are fine, happy as larry!

Thanks
Aylana

I'm no snail expert, but someone said the addition of salt to the tank will kill them off. I suppose in a way it's like land snails then.
But that's the only thing I can think of :dunno:

I haven't added any salt to the tank, but thanks anyway! I have moved them back into the old tank in the hopes they they will recuperate.

Malaysian trumpet snails actually do really well in brackish waters :) My brackish water tank is completely overrun by them.

Can I ask what you're feeding your tank? Malaysian trumpet snails eat meaty foods, so if you stopped feeding things like bloodworms and stuff, it's quite possible they're just not getting any food and dying off because of that.

I haven't fed anything particularly meaty for a little while, it may be that although they were pretty active until I moved them into the new tank then just dropped on their backs but then started moving again when I put them in the old tank. I have found a couple of small ones at the back of the new tank which still seem ok though. Thanks for the advice and I will make sure they get plenty of meaty stuff in the future.

In my old tank, I rarely fed my fish anything other than flakes, yet the MTSs were thriving.
