Anyways, do you mean java fern? Java is in Indonesia, neighbouring Malaysia, so perhaps you or the store you bought it from got mixed up or something, as I've never heard of Malayan Aquatic Fern. Do a quick google search, and if the plant you have is indeed java fern, then you should attach it to some slate or wood. If you bury the rhizome, the plant won't grow. Hope this helps.
A quick side note, the use of the word Malaya has become obsolete due to its connotations of the British colonial period, which ended in 63'. Sorry for the history lesson, but I'm a history major and a proud Malaysian as well.
