I am thinking of setting up a 24x12x12 inch tank with malawi cichlid but was wondering a few things before i do so:
1. how many malawi's should i keep in it?
2. what sort of living arrangements should i provide?
3. if planted what sort of light should i use?

Thx for the help :)

The only malawi ciclhids you should keep in a tank that small would be a single brooding female, so she can release her brood in peace. You could then raise the babies for about a month before having to move them to larger quarters.

Try some shell dwelling tanganyikans if africans is what you want or get a bigger tank.

How much larger tank would i need to keep malawis?

Have you red the pinned post yet? A 3 foot tank is the ideal minimum for mbuna, they are extremely active, most grow fairly large (5-6") and they are aggressive.
