So i'm currently at the end of cycling for my 65 gallon 36x18x24 tank. I'm just curious on how many cichlids to stock? I know they should be over-stocked to eliminate aggression. I also am over-filtered with a Aquaclear 70 and Fluval 305. I like Johanni's and Electric Yellow, but i'm open to anything with beautiful color.

Please help, i wanna do mbunas but just need to know how many would be reccomended for my size

Yellow Labs, are good peaceful fish for Mbuna set-ups. But I would stay away from Melanochromis Johanni, I never had anything but trouble from the whole Melanochromis species, you could do a nice Demasoni & Yellow Lab set up with a 65 Gallon, that's generally popular as the blues and Yellows go well.

With your tank been 3ft it's a little more limited in the fact of what certain species you can keep. Even though its still a 65G its all about the footprint of the set-up. Labidochromis Caeruleus will work well as ace said, Demasoni can be a bit more difficult to keep but not always, they usually work well in larger groups or a species set-up. Cynotilapia species would also work well and there is a few different types to choose from. Have you found any species that you like the look off?? :good:

Ive been looking at different ones i just am new to them so i don't know breedks. I also have concern that my LFS will have them all mixed up and i wont be able to tell differences. I like the look of blue/yellow/purple. Recommendation? And how many?

I LOVE what i see of the cynotilapia

Congrats on the labs :).. Any pics??
Some Cynotilapia afra cobue or jalo reef would look really nice or even some pseudotropheus minutus these are beautiful little fish too. As you say its just whether you can actually get these from your LFS, do you have any local breeders?? These usually sell higher quality fish and more varieties .

No pics yet, they really haven't settled down yet, i think they are claiming their territories. My LFS is very reputable and gets most their fish from breeders. They have a bunch of cichlids just not the cynotilapia. They had two tanks of "assorted" but i couldn't ID them so i didn't get any of those. I'm gonna let the labs settle down then i've got some replica texas limestone coming from Ebay i'll put that in when I get the next batch.
