Sorry to be a pain but i wanna get this right.

1) Is gravel better for malawis or sand?

2) Ive been told that malawis will feed on very small tit bits of prawns and mussles alongside their main diet, is this true?

Cheers
Luke

Sand is better. As they tend to enjoy shuffeling the the substrate around gravel can get lodged in their mouths/throats. So sand.

You can use bits of those foods as supplements for most Malawis, just don't overdo it. You can also buy small fresh food like Mysis shrimp in the fish store.

cheers peeps,
Ive been looking at some yellow labs and kinda like them but i like the red top zebra??? think thats what its called but not sure if these will get along as the yellow labs say peaceful but the latter fish has been described as aggressive?

nearly getting there :/

Don't worry about the Yellow labs, they're not outwardly aggressive, but they are tough enough to hold their own with all but the most aggressive fish.

all african cichlids are aggressive and i have found that most of them can hold their own once in an established cichlid community. The only times i ever have had any loses is when i introduce new fish. I have found that to avoid that you can take out 50 percent of the water. Change your tank layout (caves plants and whatnot) and introduce your new fish. Put the water back in lights on and all the fish are confused and scramble to establish a territory.
