Is it possible to keep lake malawi ad new world cichlids together or is this just a really stupid question? Doing a bit of research indicated they require dirrerent conditions so my guess is no? Can anyone else help me out and let me know if i can do it. As i love lake malawi cichlids and also love new world cichlids was kinda hoping i dont have to pick one and i could have both! Cheers

If i have to choose please can someone help me out this the advantages, disadvantages of both? Im wanting to keep the most colourful and asthetically pleasing fish really. Cheers

Ok can ya help me out with the advantages, disadvantages of both, guess im gonna need to choose which one to go for now. Things like is one very difficult to keep? Cost? How easy is either to get in the uk? Anything else i shoudl watch out for? Cheers

there's a hell of a lot of difference in new world cichlids, are there any in particular you are looking at keeping. Best to work it out on individual species really as they're requirements and personalities can be vastly different.

Is there any articles u know of to help me deicde what to keep? I know this is a lame way to decide but which is the most colourful and attractive?

this is the fish index for new world cichlids, there's pics and basic species info, it's a good place to start, then when you've found a few you like maybe post in the new world cichlids section and ask if they're compatible.

New worlds are (generally) easier to look after than african's, they're water parameters are easier to get stable I find so if you've not kept fish before it might be a better starting place for you. That's not to say no beginner can keep african's, but you have to be prepared for a fair bit more research and work.

:)

I have kept fish before bit it was a comunity tank, just decided cichlids are the most attracitve fish. But im still very much a beginner really when it comes to fish keeping, but im more than willing to learn. Having a quick scan about rift valley cichlids appear to be the most appealing to me, im gessing my first problem is that ive just gone out a bought loads of small round pebble gravel for my tank and they should have sand? Lol knew cichlids were goin to be hard work. Ill do some research on rift valley cichlids and see if i think i can keep them.

Sorry to keep been a pain but can someone help me out and give me the exact catagory of fish im looking at, i like Labeotropheus, Aulonocara and Cynotilapia that sort of thing, they seem to be given all kinds of catagories, i can research correctly if someone can just let me know what kind of fish im looking at, cheers
