I think i might be getting excited too early but I got some filter media from an established fish tank from my LFS and i've had that in for 24hrs. I also added a small dose of pure ammonia yesterday. The test results I got for today are: Ammonia: 0.25; Nitrite: 0; Nitrate: 10... I've read the pinned topics in the forum but am still not 100% sure... What is my next step? How will I know when it is safe to start adding fish?

Hi there,

You need to add more ammonia now to keep the nitrite alive.

You can add fish when ammonia is processed into nitrite then nitrate in under 12 hours. Once your tank is doing that, do a large water change then get your fish.

You will be able to add fish when the tank can process 2-4ppm of ammoina in 12hrs. Even with mature media it may still take a couple weeks to acheive this But you are definatly on your way there :good:.
