Hi all,

Having a bit of a change this weekend. I'm emptying the tank and putting down Tropica Aquacare covered by fine gravel. At the moment I have a selection of Crypts and Amazon Swords and will be adding quite a few more Crypts. At the moment, the tank (48'' x 18'' x 15'') houses twenty Cardinal Tetras, 15 Harlequin Rasbora and 5 Bronze Corys alongside 5 Peppered Corys. I'm intending to add 15 Pencilfish to these in a couple of weeks. The tank is filtered by a Tetratec EX700 external filter and I added an EX600 a few months ago. At the moment, I'm dosing 5ml of EasyCarbo daily with the same amount of ProFito every other day. I'm thinking about changing the ProFito for Tropica TPN; would I need the TPN, or TPN+?. The ProFito is fine, but since I started using it, I've noticed the two filter intake tubes go rather brown and yucky more quickly, meaning that I have to clean the pipes and tubing more often. Any views on this?. Filters are serviced alternately every month. Thanks for any input.

go for TPN+

i wouldnt add any pencil fish until youve got everything going...the reason for the pipes going brown will be brown algae...normal in a newly set up tank and will disappear as quick as it came.

i would start of with lots of plants! about 75% substrate coverage to drive the algae away

Thanks, Jack. Tank's been set up for five years now, I've only noticed the nasty stuff in the pipes since I started using the ProFito (which, of course, is also brown - before that, the pipework and tubing only needed cleaning every couple of months); since I've been using EasyCarbo I've hardly seen any algae on the glass - certainly none on the plants. As I mentioned, Pencilfish will be added in a few weeks.

increase your circulation and plant biomass

Lots of new plants going in; think I'll stop the ProFito and swap it for the TPN+.
