ok i have a dwarf blue gourami in a my 10 gal hospital tank because a molly from my 40 gal pecked patches of his scales off.

now he is excreting pale waste and i just noticed three or four string like projections on his body...they look almost like peeled skin. What is this??????

also..i just bought some internal parasite medicated food...(pale waste!!) since i couldnt find any other parasite medicine..

he eats but seems to have trouble getting food in his mouth...

waters:

ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 10
temperature: 77

Internal parasites, long stringy white poo, red inflamed anus, bloated or skinny, sunken in belly, long stringy white stuff is it a fungus or an external parasite.

no bloat, not too skinny, no red inflamed anus, not fungus..i dont think...

same size...just missing scales, stringy poo, and wierd projections..i dont think it is fungus...

how do i treat external parasites if that is what it is?

I would get a magnifying glass sorry can't spell that, and take a closer look.

unfortunately i do not have a magnifying glass..i took a closer look and i noticed that the projections are almost clear but the middle is dark...stick- like...it looks like a tiny dark rod with a film over it...

some of them have two or three tiny extentions at the end of it...i wish i could get a closer look

there are many of them

sound like any external parasite youve heard of...

thanks for your quick replies...

With him also having long stringy white poo can you issolate him, it does sound like an external parasite but which one i don't no, you will also have to medicate the main tank aswell.

thank you for the site!

he has been isolated for a while now

when he began to lose his scales i immediately placed him in the 10 gallon..

i havnt noticed the parasite until today

are my other fish ok....

Does it look like a small whip with a fork tail.

you will need to treat the tank it came from as well.

yea..just yesterday i found that several of my mollies from the big tank have anchor worm too!

so what do i do about water changes during treatment...do i do them more often or do them less or the same?

and how is it that my fish got anchor worm in the first place since it is more commonly seen in ponds and outside fish?

thank you for the reply

If you have to do a water change and vac just add the correct amount of med back to the water removed, have you added any new fish or plants lately, good luck.

ive added a red finned albino shark and a molly last week or so.

i medicated both tanks...do i need to take out the carbon filters?

if i do..i have an underground filter..(im soon to upgrade) and if i take the carbon filters out the waste from the bottom will pollute the water..what do i do?
