Hi, first of all, i'm new to this.
Right, I have a Cayman 110 professional tank which holds 230 litres. I came downstairs yesterday morning and to my horror, I only had four inches of water left in my tank! It was pooring out from the bottom left hand corner.
The tank is under two years old and still under warranty. The water had tripped the surge protector fourway socket and obviously because there was hardly any water left, then the filter and heater were not on.
I had a spare biorb tank, and managed to fill it with only a few litres of tank water that was remaining and had to top it up with tap water. I bought a heater for it got that in a few hours after the disaster.
The problem is, that i've lost over forty fish in 24 hours, the water is very cloudy but all the nitrate, ammonia, ph levels are pretty much ok, after adding potions!
I only have a few penguin fish, angel fish and a silver shark remaining, and the all look pretty poorly.
Do I just accept the fact that I did all I could as they would have all died if all the water had leaked from my tank anyway.
The rep from ferplast is coming down on the 22nd november to check out my tank, but has said that it will be replaced.
My house is like a bombs hit it, as we have had to rip up the laminate floor and get big de-humidifiers in to dry the place out.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Mike.

Hey - sorry to hear that, what a nightmare !!!

Cloudy water is bacteria bloom / new filter type syndrome. I suspect the filter in the new tank is not matured and not capable of coping. Not much you can do under the circumstances though you did all you can.

I would either get the fish to your nice LFS to keep for you until you can get them back, or daily water changes in new tank

What type of filter is it ? How big / how many fish are in the new tank now ?

Hi Spooky, It was a new biorb tank that we had never set up before. Obviously we didn't have time to let the tank mature, etc, and it was just a case of quickly filling it up with water and getting the fish in.
Lost a load more today including my silver shark and angel fish. The only ones left now are 6 penguin fish, 2 loaches and 4 shrimps.
I did a 50% water change earlier and the tank has cleared and the fish look livelier!
Cheers.

You have basically added about 20galls of fish to an Orb which cant support it and also didnt have any bacteria to help remove toxins. (You need to really rehome the fish) until you can provide a new suitable tank. You did everything you could for an emergency, its exactly what id have done.

Just take it on the chin and prepare for replacing the tank and fish :(
