I was just wondering, if anyone knows of a site where you can purchase mail order daphnia. I have read about the proccess by which you can cultivate them yourself but I have a small arpartment in NYC and a bucket of stagnant water about the place just doesn't jive.

Hi swim :)

I know what you mean about the space in a small apartment! ;)

I'm not sure that this site is what you are looking for, but if not, perhaps they might have something else that works for you.

I bought microworms from them a year ago to feed my cory fry and the culture is still going strong. I grow all I need in a few plastic shoeboxes and it's no trouble at all.

What kind of fish do you have that will be eating them?

Hello Inchworm,

I will be using the daphnia to feed my two angels. There are two live foods that I have found readily available at the lfs... bloodworms and fruit flies. They both work very well. I can also find brine shrimp but they're less convenient. My interest in the daphnia is to add a little variety to their diet. Also, I wonder if daphnia can survive in the tank... hiding among the plants and rocks... allowing for the inhabitants to forage for them throughout the day. I think the bloodworms can survive for a good while buried in the substrate, I have found them thriving weeks after a feeding. This works great for the loaches who dig in the gravel but the angels will have nothing to do with that.
