as much a piece of furniture as a tank !!! , does anyone know of anything similar but maybe a bit cheaper ....

I haven't seen any that are as good build quality or size for the same cash as these are made exclusively for MA from Seashell but if you check out some online auction site there are a few 2nd that are nice and one that I noted is at around £165 with a day to go. Slightly different but a nice unit all the same.

The only option otherwise is custom made but that will be a similar if not higher price but could be worth a ring around to see.

Also check this out for an old discussion about them http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/301841-solid-oak-fish-cabinets/

Kind Regards,

Adam

thanks , just noticed it is £600 bare so another chunk of money on lighting / filter etc , might be a bit much now i think on ...

If you talk to the guys at MA direct they are pretty good at giving discount on a full system so it may come in cheaper than you think but it depends on what you go for and as said they do full kits that mean you have everything to get going as well.

You will have to contact MA to talk about the equipment set as it changes from store to store in what they stock but may be worth a ring to see. The one with the wine rack is the one I noticed for sale on Ebay at £165 atm. Not sure if it is close to you or not but check out gumtree or type in Oak Aquarium into google and other online sales forums pop up with some on there that may be of interest.

there are aquarium manufacturers around, local to me is ND aquatics, bouught a tank from them approx 3 years ago, no complaints....have a look on AC for someone near you.

saw that one , reckon it will go for £250 plus , not a bad price if it does , its a fair way for me though ...

Yeah, you may be lucky though. Someone managed to get the 6ft one for £280 a while back as 2nd hand tank prices seem to be dropping and with people needing to collect a deal is to be had. It is too far for me otherwise I would be interested in it as well.

Keep looking at the 6ft version in MA thinking about saving for it but something else always turns up to sort first.

Adam

the thing I like about it is it is the same as the furniture that the garden centre sells so I could get another piece or two that would match ....

Yeah I know what you mean. I just like the idea of it being solid oak. Although it says don't get it wet it is not so much structural justification, it is that it will stain unless it is sealed. You could easily do that before filling the tank and know that it is allot more solid than 90% of the other tanks out there and it in reality is only about twice the price of a similar sized tank that is certainly not as well built (Jewel, Ebay budget models etc).

My Rena 350 is a great tank but the quality is just not the same. It feels cheap and it looks cheap too. The only tanks I could suggest that come in good quality is the ND Aquatics but they are still MFC panels which are just not the same as an oak unit.

Although this is reflected in the price at £469 base rate and can be finished in a similar coloured to that of the solid Oak unit. That price is for the tank and cabinet only and still does not include lighting or filtration so not a huge saving although it will be better made than most off the shelf products available such as a Jewel or Rena in my opinion.

Adam

the one on ebay is at £195 with 8 hours to go , just noticed he will deliver for fuel which i reckon would be ~£50 , cant make my mind up about taking a punt on it , it would be half price if i got it for £300 .....

Its a lot of nice wood, but not a lot of fish tank, that's my only issue with them. :>

Well the one on ebay has jumped to £255 and it is still a 200 litre tank so at that price is reasonable.

I get what you mean but it is solid Oak which commands a premium. The wood itself is worth in the region of £300 before labour and tank costs and that is why they are priced as such.

Kinda depends if you got the house and decor to match the furniture. Its a lovely bit of wood, but not something i would put in my 3 up 3 down house. Besides which, having a wine rack would be a complete waste of time, i'd fill it up one week to find it empty the next.... :D

Solid Oak and cheap laminate wood flooring just don't go hand in hand :D

My 5 footer was an MA tank, its a much cheaper looking stand (although i do quite like the finish on it!) but at 425 Litres and £280 i know which one i would still buy (again). :D
