I am almost ready to set up a 45g and still not understanding this filter I ordered. I am buying Magnum 350 (pro) canister filter, because I heard great things and have seen how well it does in the 55 g in my lfs.
They sometimes come with a bio wheel, (which is the set up that I ordered). My lfs doesn't even use her bio wheel part, says she doesn't like the splash, and doesn't really need it. She has nothing else for the biological part in there but thick gravel. Does this mean that inside that canister it will grow enough of the bacteria I need? If this is so, why are they selling it together, like it needs both units to work well?
Can this dual- bio wheel be used alone as a filter for another tank?
