Been keeping fish for 10 years but somehow never had a magnet type algae cleaner, so are thay any good?

Sometimes i have to scrub quite hard to remove algae and im not sure the magnet type cleaners will have enough force to remove to clean the glass

 Thats just what I was thinking the other day too! I was scrubbing for a good 1/2 hour, and I started thinking about the magnet cleaners. The only thing I can think of is if they were made of a different courser material to the pad I was using, otherwise I have absolutely no idea how they would do the job as effectively as a bit of elbow grease!

The magnetic cleaners are absolutely wonderful for algae on the tank glass. But as mentioned before, you'll still have algae in other places to deal with the old-fashioned way.

If you get a magnetice cleaner, be sure you get the proper one for your tank type. There are separate ones for glass and acrylic tanks.

pendragon!

I have 2 different sized ones I've been using for a few years now. I love them. As for corners, the magnet does not fit in there well so the old way is required to clean them.

We have a large goldfish tank at work. The best thing I have found for cleaning the glass is an old credit card!Just scrape it edge on at about 30 degree up and down the glass and everthing comes off.And the fish love to eat the scraped off algae. The best thing is it is free!!

i've got one in 2 tanks there just easy cus u can just whip em over the tank every few days and stop it getting unsightly still need to do a propper clean ever now and then but on the whole looks better

I don't use mine often as I'm too lazy to take them out, but they're ok. Makes it possible to clean the glass of algae without sticking your hand in the tank or getting wet. But I do have a certain type of algae that make green spots on the glass, they're very hard to remove, and the magnet can't, unless I scrub it in there like a regular scrubber.

I have a long scraper with a razor blade on the end that works great for algae. I keep it away from the corners though-I don't want to accidentally slice through some silicone. Also keep it away from nosy fish.

If you have Sand in your Tank and intend on using one of these Magent cleaners, be carefull. I have Sand and got a Magnet cleaner....just watch that it dosn't pick up ant Sand with it. Else you'll end up like me with a not so nice large scratch on your Glass.
