i am finding it hard to maintain any decent calcium level, also my alkalinity is a bit on the low side, i understand that it might be that i have low magnesium levels which acts as a buffer for the other 2. i am getting a magnesum test kit this weekend.

but what magnesium additives are out there? and what are your recommendations is magnesium pro liquid any good? or is there better on the market?

please help

cheers

thanks for the article but is there any good brands as doing a d.i.y job could be more trouble then what i bargain for cheers 8)

Using the DIY Mg from this would be fine. As long as you test before you add and then about hour after to make sure that your not raising it to dangerous levels. I keep a book and mark down the Ca Alk and Mg levels before I add then the amount I have added. By doing this you can see trends in calcification rates and adjust you supplements accordingly. You should not be afraid of the DIY additives as they are a tried and tested way of supplementing you aquaria, and there cheaper too! Trust Randy Holmes-Farley's DIY additive they've worked for me and short of getting a Ca reactor I'm going to continue using them.
