hi, been keeping trophial fish for about six months, got loads of info from loads of difference sources but nothing about maggots. just spotted one stuck to the glass its about 1cm. any info or help would really be handy as i'm worried a bit. been reading around and having one maggot means their are plenty more in the tank? thanks alot

Erm, I don't think maggots can survive underwater. It's more likely to be some sort of snail. A photo would really help :)

i've took a photo but dunno where to add it on the site at all. it looks just like a maggot in like a green leaf thats trapped against the glass.

thats not where i wanted the photo but its now their lol it wriggles and don't look too good.

i'm don't know what hydra or planaria means. :-s

Ah, another member on here had these, I think they turned out to be some sort of caterpillar. To attach a photo, click the "Add Reply" button and you will see a section for attachments under the text box in the full editor.

Anyway, the general recommendation is that you remove them. Personally, I could move them to another container and let them hatch, but the member who found them in their aquarium killed them instead so we never found out what the species actually was.

Two aquatic animal groups. If someone is trying to ID an animal for you, it's probably best if you do an image search on the name, then post a "yea" or "nay" reply ;)

so its not harmful to the fish or anything? thank you i see it as i'm writing this now lol think i'll remove it and put in a jar and see what happens. but surely without the heat wouldn't it just die? :-s thanks for your help.

its planaria then. few images down and thats exactly whats in the tank.

Planaria are normally only 1-2 mm long, so not as big as what you describe. I don't know if your critters are harmful to fish, but we may be able to tell if you show us a photo.

Most aquatic animals can survive in a large range of temperatures, so it depends on the animal in question :)

i've took it out and got rid. didn't really wanna take any chances. i'll monitor the fish more closely for a few days (not sure if thats possible mind, can spend hours watching em all swim about) thanks for your help.
