I feed the gang (5 zebra danios, 5 WCMM and 2*1.5" goldfish waiting for pond filer to be repaired) on live bloodworms last night.

I've got one of those little sieve things that rest in a feeding ring - it's about an inch across and 1 1/2 inches deep - so that they don't fall to the bottom too quickly. I forgot to take it out and this morning one of the WCMM was in it! Let her go and there doesn't seem to be any ill effects from her confinement. Luck they're small!

Is this normal?

All sorts of fish have been known to jump into odd places for food so it is not unheard of for somthing like that to happen- to be on the safe side, just make sure your tank hood is firmly in place with no gaps or holes that the fish can get out of ;) .
