You just need to give them some time i find feeding them by hand helps, they also seem to recognise people as mine will hide from strangers and anyone who wears turquoise !

Is it only me who has this problem regarding , the fish disappear when we go close to the aquarium or as soon they see someone ,when they are left alone and watch with a web cam the fish are running about with no problems .

They just need to get used to you. Try sitting very still in front of the tank for around 10 minutes a coule times a day. After a week or so of that, start moving very slowly while you sit in front of the tank, it will take some patience on your part, but eventually they'll get used you being there and won't hide as much. It also helps when they start associating you with food, mbuna will do anything for food.

And like Nick said, don't be surprised once they are coming out for you, they'll hide from anyone else. Mine always hide when I have company.

Hello everyone , i am back on this topic it looks my fish are going to shy for life ,

This ic a very common problem in fact the aquarium shops told me they are not selling to many cichlids due to this problem

I'm sorry it seems you've got a shy bunch, but I'm sure that majority of cichlid keepers on here can tell you that constant hiding is an exception rather than the rule.

If they are still continually hiding, they obviously feel threatened by something. Did you try what I suggested about spending time in front of the tank not moving, and when you are feeding or something, slow movements are best.

Mine did it for a couple of days, but not this long

Try feeding just a little bit every time you go over to the tank.
They'll soon realise that, you = food :good:

But as others have said, when I have friends over, they always hide.

People always ask, "is there actually any fish in ther?"

It can be sudden movements too, like my SAP's will happily eat from my hand, but occasionally my other fish will get nervous if there's a sudden movement. Like, all the other people have sed, it's probably them being shy just give 'em time :)

Sorry about the fish but it is invisible ,in the aquarium there is 12 yellow labs 8 Pseudotropheus demasoni and 2 clown loches which are all shy

do not bodder to comment on anything you see

Thanks for all the help
Emmanuel .

I know you said don't bother to reply, but I'm fairly certain I now know why you never see the fish. You don't have near enough rocks, mbuna are a rock-dwelling species, that means the they feel most secure when there are a lot of rocks, so that they can hide when they feel threatened. P.demasoni especially spend most if not all of their time hugging the rocks in their environment. The problem you're having is that with only a couple of rocks, they feel threatened by all the open space, and therefore stay where they are safe, huddled around a rock (I could see several of them on the far right).

I like the nice minimalist look of your tank, but if you want your fish to feel safe, you'll need to replicate their natural environment.

Thanks for your reply , in fact i have more rocks but i was afraid that if i put more rocks they will have more space were to hide ,and what does minimalist look of your tank mean

Thanks
Emmanuel
