The alpha male of the tank (peacock) just about killed another peacock this eve in about 2 hours I guess. I was watching the tank, everything was cool, 2 hours later the guy was swimming on his back. I put him in my quarentine tank. He has been on his back upsidown for about 4 hours. Should I put him out of his misery, or will he heal if I leave him be?

Thanks

Sorrowfully

Mike

Do everything you can to save him. :-( I've brought back fish from the brink of death just by slow steady TLC. These fish are real troopers! :grr:

temp 78-80
salt
MELAFIX!!!!!!!
if not bleeding he should recover but do not put him back in the alpha tank!!!
he needs a new home now.

sorry to say he is in fish heaven. I hope the little ####er doesn't keep killing the rest one by one or I am gonna feed him to my cat.

Don't blame the fish - in the wild males live solitary lives and do not mingle with their own kind, except for when they lure a female from their shoal for breeding. Stick multiple males together in the limitations of a tank and they're bound to fight, and sometimes it gets out of hand.

getting a perfectly balanced tank is reaaly difficult/extremely lucky.you imagine putting 20 of any animals in a tank/cage etc and expecting them to get on.in my opinion, the main thing you need is,a lot of research,a lot of luck, and,a very freindly lfs who will take back any fish that are too timid or too boisterous.

Well as an interesting point? perhaps my community of 4 asst peacocks and 4 yellow labs has had some kind of pow wow and made peace. Everyone seems to be less aggressive and my alpha male is not terrorizing anyone at the moment. Could this be the foundation of a long term equilibrium in the tank?

as mamafish68 said really.if you take out the boss male, another WILL replace him.my male stops all agro in the tank and doesnt pick on any of the other fish really.he will put them in their place but not bully them.try to find a male(if you can)that is not such a bully.
