does the Lyretail Anthias and other Anthias really need a 125 gallong tank like liveaquaria.com says. if so is it because they are open swimmers like tangs? My LFS has some every once and a while in a small tank looks like a 30 gal. cube.

Also since they are hermaphroditic fish, if i got just one female would it turn into a male?

Well, some Anthias are NOT comfortable in a tank by their lonesome. They also grow quite big. Liveaquaria's longterm reccomendation of a 125g minimum is pretty accurate if you want the Anthias to live more than a year or two. These fisl will be healthier and less disease-prone if in a shoal with plenty of water to swim in. They do not just stay put in their natural habitat, and just like tangs, cruise over rock formations instead of living in one spot in the rocks.
