I have a pair of wild-type bettas that just wont' spawn (my little burdigalas). So I'm at the point where I've decided to tinker with the pH and see if lowering to what natural wild conditions would be will induce spawning. I have everything I need to lower the pH, but the problem is I can't find a test kit that tests for lower than 6.0. I'd like to get it around the 4.5-5.0 range. I've hunted around at shops here and the lowest I can find only tests down to 6.0. I looked at a few places online as well, but still haven't found what I'm looking for.

Anyone know of any test kits out there that test for this low low range? Or does anyone out there that keep fish in a low low pH, know of non-aquarium pH test kits out there that might work as an alternative?

JBL makes a PH test for 3-10, but the scale goes like .5: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 9.5, 10. Only one I know.

Buy a pH meter you can pick one up for about £35 and will give an acurate pH of 2 to the nearest 0.1

Here's another...though I think the electronic meter's prob. best bet, prob. want to know if it dips below 4.5  scary stuff, scary stuff...

Good luck w/ the venture. ;)

Hmmm, those wide range test kits make me wonder about accuracy. But I may just have to look into those meters. Would never have even thought about that, thanks for the suggestion Disco (see, I venture into a new area, I learn something new, who knew)
