Well i decided to put my Jewel Cichlid breeding program on a hiatus for quite a while.
I was in an LFS the other day but with no cash on me and i saw them.
The most perfect pair of Blue Rams. A resonably sized pair both in a full blue, excellent fins and body form and the female had a bright pink belly!
They followed each other every where around the tank just like a normal pair should mdo in the home aquarium, but i had never seen proper behaviour like that at an LFS. I needed to get them, and was just about to ask the employee there to bag them up then i rememberd.
I had no money
So i reluctantly walked out. I made sure i had the money this morning and went back there. But i couldn't find them! I asked the employee there where they were and then he smiled and pointed to the tank next to the one i was looking at
)
I happily got them
I had an un occupied filterd 20 gallon tank. and everything was perfect for them. PH was 6.4, water was Soft (oviously if the PH was low) the temp was 84F and there was no ammonia, no Nitrite and the Nitrate was 20ppm, since i had java moss and java fern in there. I gave them a fake terracota pot (need to get a real one, looks better) a PVC pipe, that my B-noses spawn in (they always eat the eggs, so no problem) and smashed up peices of sand stone that i formed to make a cave like thing and a put the java Moss on top of that.
THEY HAVE JUST DISPLAYED SPAWNING BEHAVIOUR!
They were displaying to eachother and the colours were magnificant! They gave each other a few nips (which is understandable because i don't have any dither fish for them) and now they're cleaning off the rocks and the pipe and have also dug a little pit near the cave!
I never expected this to happen so early! They've been in the tank for only half a day!
I've bred rams before (fry died unfortunatly) but never this quickly!
And the only bad thing about this is that im going away for 10 days tomorow
I'm sure the fry will be okay being fed on the stuff from the plants
Ill try and update as i go along
Thanks for reading!
