1. I got a 2 Gallon-Tank with some Ghost-Shrimps in there and a Betta! Though the water-Readings are fine, everything in check, I have a airpump running plus a good pump running- it smells awefull to my sensitive nose, almost like Cat-Pee! Is there anything I can do about the smell? I did a little Water-Exchange with aged water today- it helped a little!

2. Then, my Betta chows up any food that touches the surface so fast, that nothing got time to sink down for my Ghost-Shrimpies. I don't want them to starv, but I also don't want to have to overfeed my Betta in hope that he's so busy picking stuff out the water that some flakes have time to sink down for my shrimps! Is there a middlething where I can feed my Betta only as much as he really needs, but make sure that my Shrimps also get their share! Should I try Algea-Chips, oer whatever they are called. The dropp to the bottom, Bob Marley my Betta seems to only be interested in the stuff swimming up there! Any tips on what my littelones can have? I really don't want to take them out of the tank, other then that they are such great Tank-Mates- Bettas and Ghost-Shrimps!

3. Also, to have prepped water handy I fixed up a 5 Gallon-bottle of Tab-Water with "Start-right" and Stresszyme (wich apparently adds extra minerals and things to help the good bakteria grow. Is it ok for me to store the "clean" prepped water in a bottle like that- does it also age that way or do I have to leave it open (bottle) for that? I'm going on vacation for three weeks soon, and I don't want my neighbor have to fix up water for the tank all the time!

4. I had bought a filter for my Tank in addition to the air-pump wich the Tank already came with, but it was one to put IN the tank, that was bad because it took up almost half the room in the tank. To fix that I got a different filter, one for outside the tank- it's called Aqua-Tech Powerfilter- it works perfect, is extremly quiet- it has a three stagefilter! Now the hook, I got a two Gallon-Tank, but the Filter is made for a 5-15 Gallon Tank (they had no lower filter as an external one)- supposedly perfect for a ten gallon! Could that harm in any way the aquarium or my Betta! There is no strong current or so, the Shrimpies also have no problem with it and go about their business as usual- so does my Betta. Can I leave it or do I have to keep looking for a smaller filter?

1. don't know
2. try to feed the betta on one side of the tank while you feed the shrimps o the other side of the tank with some soaked food so it sinks fast
3. you will probably need to keep the bottle open
4. as long as the current isnt to strong the bigger the better

1. Are you sure that smell isn't ammonia? Ammonia is a key constituent of cat urine (just in a slightly different form). If you have an ammonia level of 0, then take that airpump out and isolate the problem....I bet that smells bad...

2. Use a fast sinking type of food for the ghost shrimp.

3. Tough question...how about leaving it open to allow for O2 exchange but cover the top with a cheesecloth or something so some larger partcles don't get in there.

4. Yep, the bigger the better as long as the current isn't stressing anyone out.

HAVE A GREAT VACATION!!! :)

1. You know what, maybe it's sulfur...like rotten eggs? Try cleaning the airpump really well...
