I stick to my first point, that if they are great errors in your mind, send them an email -- maybe the authors/administrators have a good reason for posting what they did. Or, I raise the possibility they might have just copied it out of a book, and thereby copied something wrong. They would probably appreciate someone more knowledgable writing in and suggesting corrections. And those words were chosen with care. If you write a nasty email, you are going to get no response. But, if you expalin your experiences and knowledge, and they still chose to ignore you, then you have a beef.
I don't want this thread locked or deleted, I am only trying to point out that even our so called experts make mistakes, and so will our websites. My parents used to always tell me not to belive everything on TV or in the papers... I think we all know that goes a hundred fold for the 'net. And, I think that reminding people that they are ultimatly responsible for chosing their fish and fishkeeping duties is probably a good thing, not the responsibility of one of many websites.
Lastly, some of the errors have been greatly exaggerated.
FP's Clown Loaches Page says they grow to 9.8", not 6". No mention of a 20 gal as far as I can see. I have never kept them, but I hear that they may reach up to a foot. 10 inches is not that far from 12.
The advice on bettas is typical -- not to house males and females together. Violence does often happen, but not everytime. Again, these suggestions are for typical or average cases, but there will always be exceptions. I mean, how many times have we read about people on here and on other message boards about angels and neons living happily together. Or someone who keeps tiger barbs with gouramies or angels or bettas with no fin-nipping problems. These cases are possible, but we all know, not recommended.
I do not see an egregious contradiction on the RTBS profile. From what I read, it looks like you should only keep them in a large tank with cover and with tankmates that can stick up for themselves. Sounds like good advice to me.
The profile on Bala Sharks lists a total length of 35 cm. But the notes say is takes 2 1/2 to 3 years to reach 20 cm. The total length is given, FP is just noting that is may take a while for the fish to get there. Again, I have never kept them, so I cannot comment on the accuracy, but I do not see anything greatly misleading.
Having also never kept puffers, I cannot comment on their advice. Except to reiterate my advice to send them an email and let them know why you think they are incorrect and what you think you should change.
And then this thread comments about liveaquaria recommending 30 gal for tetras. Obviously, 30 gal is overkill for one tetra, but as we all know, most tetras are schooling/shoaling and would really really appreciate some companionship. 30 gal is not overkill for a nice sized school of tetras. Also, tetras are typically constant swimmers, so some room to "spread their fins" as it were is good. Yes, a school of neons will live in 5 gal, but they would probably appreciate the extra room to explore and swim in a larger tank. And on the 55 gal for the large fishes... I know I sound like a broken record, and if you've read this far I'm impressed, but if you do not like their advice, do something about it. If you
look on liveaquaria.com, you can leave comments on the fish profiles, and suggest that 55 gal is just too small in the long term.
