in my tank i have two amano shrimp...now i have one!! i don't have a clue where the other one has gone! its a heavily planted tank but its nowhere to be found!! is there any way of enticing it out of somewhere?

Shrimp are very good at hiding. As long as you can't see a body I'd just leave it be, it'll come out when it feels like it.

My Amanos are the ultimate escape artisits. Until I realise this I lost a few - and my tank is covered. I have since taped up ALL holes / escape routes. This was in the days when my tank was cycling - they are very VERY sensitive and probably tried to escape because of this. I know this is not great news - look on the floor! BTW, they can crawl VERY far, some of my unfortunate escapees made it up to 6 METERS before conking out. - They are like moths in this respect - they head for light....

To entice them out - I find that when I do a water change they go swim all over the place.

Hope the lost on is OK,

Andy

There little buggers! i got 2 before xmas and it took one about 4 hours to find a way out and jump on to the carpet, Took me a further 8 hours to find hi. At which point he was still alive  .... ish.

I got him in a hospital tank sharpish but there were bubbles under his shel and he passed soon later.....Was gonna eat him but i decided againt it

If the tank is planted, he is almost assuredly still there unless he died and was eaten. I have 5 in my 29 gallon. Sometimes I'll go days and even weeks without seeing all of them at the same time but they're all there. If there are any caves or things like that for them to hide in, they love to hang from the top of them.

If he'd escaped, the other would be trying to do the same. They only try and escape if they really don't like your water (pesticides on plants can do that, incidentally).

Chances are he's just gone somewhere quiet to shed his skin. He'll be back in a day or two, I'm sure.

Sorry, but in my experience I have to disagree. Mine can get out, and they don't.

Before my tank was cycled properly, mine proved that they could all easily climb out using my filter cable (and it's a good thing I was watching them to make sure they were settled!). Since the water's fully cycled, they haven't attempted to even once. Shrimp, unlike crabs and crayfish, aren't amphibious, and can't last long on dry land. They'd only endanger their lives by trying to climb out of water if they were really unhappy with the water they're in.

i would suggest that the shrips probably arent aware that the carpet therey jumping onto isnt water. But granted when there going into a new tankthere probably more likley to escape due to the stress of being rehomed

My tank has been up and running for over 3 years and i monitor my water carefully. If your shrimps can get out, they might one day take it upon them selves to do so. Ide say Your running the risk and so far have been lucky.

Maybe so, maybe so. Though none of my shrimp seem remotely distressed by their home and rarely even go near the water's surface, so I don't think I'm running a very big risk. Only time they ever wanted to climb out was due to some pesticide that got in (teaching me to always wash new plants thoroughly). Unfortunately, the same things they use to kill insects without harming fish also kill shrimp without harming fish.

I read somewhere that anubias can be poisonous to shrimp too...

I don't mean to sway the comments here but it was found in the big filter compartment after all, absolutely fine (not saying that i should not have checked in there! )...my other shrimp and more difficult fish are getting on no problem at all so i'm sure it wasn't the water quality which i test regularly anyway.
