Morning all,

Came downstairs early to watch F1 and Lewis Hamilton get the World Championship. Anyway I digress...

My 9 zebra danio-s and 1 leopard danio seem to be off colour this morning. Some have lost the black lines and have gone rather pale. Most of them (if not all) have redness around the gills.
One was rather lethargic around the gravel and it's tail bent upwards - I've heard something about that before.

It was their first night in their tank, only stocked with these danios at the minute.

I've just fed them and their colour seems to have returned, but red around the gills continue.

Thanks for your help.

Tank size: 180ltr
pH: 6.4
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 10
tank temp: 26

The stats seem unusual for red gills and the Ph seems low however have you an air stone in the tank. They do need quite a bit.

The temp is a bit high 22- 24 is good so 26 a bit on the high side.

I would do a 10% water change and this would lower temp and reset your heater.

other than that others might let you know.

Thanks for your reply.

I've started to reduce the temp, it was 24C last night but overnight had increased.

I do have an airstone.

The colour seems to have returned fully now after feeding them.

There still is the redness in the gills but on some it looks like its red on the inside and their skin is so thin that you can see it - if you get my drift. On others the redness only shows up when the gills open up.

This could just be stress you said they were new but temp Oxygen and a small water change will sort things out.

The other thing did you settle with light on or off.

They may just need time to settle.

I hope they do soon.

Body colour changes giving them blood worm should up them again.

I settled them with the light off, all the room lights and then gently increased them and opened the curtains before turning the tank light on. I did a similar thing at night time - but in reverse.Their colour is ok now tbh after some food.

Here's a photo of the redness

If the gills are red and inflamed look into gills flukes.
Signs of gill flukes are.
Red inflamed gills, pale with excess mucas.
Going thin.
laboured breathing.
Swimming oddly in a jerky movement.
Spitting food out.
Lethargic.
Flicking and rubbing.
